Companion Volunteer: Share Chats, Walks & Warmth

To visit or telephone local people. Our Befriending Service is aimed at lonely and socially isolated people who live in New Mills, Hayfield, Birch Vale, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge and Chapel en le Frith.

We have four people currently in need of a befriender, have a look below and see if you might share a common interest and would like to share a bit of you free time with them.

We have a lady in Whaley Bridge, in her 80s, with a great sense of humour. She would love to go for a short walk and a natter with a befriender once a week or so - she has some vision loss and isn't able to get out like she used to. She's very chatty and would be great company for a friendly volunteer with an hour or two to spare every week or so.

A gentleman from Chapel: a very funny guy in his 70s from Chapel en le Frith. He sadly lost his wife a wee while back and would love to chat to a friendly volunteer every week or so about his passions: fishing and music! Health problems preclude him from many angling trips these days, but he'd love to reminisce with someone with similar interests.

Lady in New Mills: a kind and lovely lady in her late 90s who is currently unable to get out and about due to health problems, meaning she is spending a lot of time on her own at home. She would love to chat to a friendly face every week or so, and has so many memories of the local area from the 1930s onwards that are fascinating to listen to. She has also been a keen gardener and crafter for many years.

Chap from Whaley Bridge: a chatty and entertaining gentleman in his 90s who lives in Whaley Bridge. After losing his wife of over 60 years, he'd love to have someone to chat to each week over a cup of tea and a biscuit! He has a great sense of humour and would really benefit from some friendly company every week or so.
