The Digital Innovation Unit is a capability within the Faculty of UCL Engineering Sciences and the first of its kind in UCL, if not the UK. Its mission is to develop a model for the 'Faculty of the Future', by applying digital innovation to all aspects of academic practice: research, teaching, knowledge transfer and professional services.

The Unit seeks to advance the strategic mission of the Faculty by identifying business problems and areas for improvement; designing, developing and implementing solutions, transforming working practices; and providing coaching, mentoring and training for Faculty Staff. In addition to delivering new systems and processes, it aims to transform the working culture of professional staff in the Faculty, by empowering them to take the lead in addressing their own professional challenges through digital innovation.

About the role

This role is fixed-term - 12 months in the first instance

The Communications Officer will execute UCL Engineering's communications strategy, raising awareness and reputation of the faculty and its departments as a leading hub of education, research, impact, and engagement in the global built environment sector, and delivering key communications for internal and external audiences, focusing on the following departments:

  • UCL Chemical Engineering
  • UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE)
  • UCL Security and Crime Science (SCS)

The post holder will w ork closely with academic leads and develop in-depth knowledge of Chem Eng, CEGE and SCS , delivering communications activities that strategically support them.

The post holder is expected to p lay a key role in implementing UCL Engineering digital communications and channel plan and support the day-to-day management of digital communications channels for Chem Eng, CEGE and SCS including websites, social media, and email.

About you

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of curating, creating, and posting social media content (e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube)
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing communications across digital communications or marketing channels.
  • Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, digital design tools (e.g. Adobe CS and Canva), website content management systems, HTML email platforms, social media channels and management tools.
  • Innovative thinking - always looking to challenge the work produced to ensure it is of exceptional quality.
