Main duties of the job

The primary role of a Commis Chef at Avery Healthcare is to assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks. The role includes assisting in managing catering services, preparing high quality and nutritional food, meeting special dietary requirements, and participating in resident meetings and collaboration with departmental heads to agree on catering functions and address specific resident needs.

  • Support all chefs to manage and deliver all catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained.
  • Participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents' special needs or dietary requirements. This must include knowledge of cultural and religious preferences.
  • Prepare nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, as directed by the Chefs, promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes.
  • Prepare special diet meals as needed and as directed by the Chefs.
  • Work in different kitchen areas such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces, usually on a six month rotation programme.
  • Assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks.
About you

  • Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
  • Hold Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year catering experience.
  • Demonstrate compassion and commitment to the delivery of high quality culinary services to residents.
  • Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

  • A DBS Disclosure check, the cost of which will be met by Avery Healthcare.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
