Job Description

char.gy is looking for a Commercial and Legal Analyst to support char.gy in successfully bidding for new contracts, and upon successful award, to work with the relevant teams to implement and negotiate those contracts and subsequently help manage them on an ongoing basis. In addition, as we grow and use more external suppliers to provide goods and services (such as equipment and component design and external manufacturing arrangements) you will help to implement those supplier contracts and also work with the product teams to manage those contracts on an ongoing basis, playing a key role in the growth of the business.

The Role:

Working within the Commercial and Legal teams, you will be in the unique position to learn about the commercial elements that drive the negotiations of an ongoing business relationship, ensuring that these commercial elements are properly and accurately covered off in the documents underpinning those business relationships.

This is a critical role in ensuring that char.gy spends its capital in a way that maximises its potential for sustainable growth. The Commercial and Legal Analyst will be involved in every investment decision the company makes.

The role will suit a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is seeking a challenge and comfortable working in a fast-growing organisation. The role's responsibilities will quickly grow with the business, representing an excellent development opportunity. You will work closely with various departments to develop business cases and bid submissions, providing guidance on the economic viability of various proposals. The role will report to the Head of Commercial, with secondary oversight from the Head of Legal and entail presentation of insights to senior management - good communication skills are therefore essential.

The role will support the business in the delivery of its growth agenda and thus will be heavily involved in assessing the potential viability of any project or bid. The successful candidate will be supported in learning about investment appraisal techniques and financial modelling.

What will you do:

With the support of the Commercial and Legal teams, the role's responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the bid team to craft high-quality responses to tender questions, specifically addressing the commercial aspects of our proposal.
  • Supporting the commercial team in investment analysis to ensure that proposed initiatives meet return expectations and achieve business objectives.
  • Supporting the commercial team in the production of papers, memos, financial and commercial analysis for senior stakeholders, including the Executive Team.
  • Supporting the legal team on memoranda setting out risks inherent in any transaction and how best to manage those risks.
  • Supporting the legal and commercial teams, as well as the partnership team on implementation of transactions and ongoing contract management.
  • Supporting the legal team on third party supplier matters.
  • Working with other teams across the business including Delivery, Product Development, Partnerships, Data, and Finance in order to gather and synthesise information that can be used to inform business cases.

This role will suit if you

  • Have strong written and spoken communication skills, including experience writing short and long-form documents that present a structured argument.
  • Have strong numeracy skills and enjoy using logical analysis to solve problems
  • Are comfortable reading long-form legal or technical documents (such as bidding documents and contracts) and pulling out and understanding the relevant extracts that may affect the commercial performance of the project.
  • Have an interest in financial and economic concepts with respect to valuations, returns, and investment appraisal.
  • Are comfortable using the Microsoft Office suite of programs particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Enjoy producing innovative visualisations to help provide context to an argument.
  • Are proactive and able to work autonomously where needed.
  • Are curious and able to understand business challenges and shape how analytical solutions could be created to answer these.
  • Have a creative mind and are happy to suggest new approaches to analysis.
  • Like to own and solve problems and are willing to work with others in order to continually improve the quality of our decision-making.
  • Have experience of and enjoy analysing data, report writing and translating data sets into a wide range of outputs the business can understand and use.
  • Are a self-starter with a "can-do" attitude, a friendly demeanour while still able to push hard to achieve targets and timelines.

Please include and attach a one page tailored Cover Letter and CV to your application. Please note that applications without a tailored Cover Letter will not be considered.
