Your new roleAs a Commercial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in monitoring, analysing, and challenging construction costs and project budgets to support the overall business objectives.

  • Cost Control: You will establish and update product standard costs, probe budget versus actual variances, and ensure corrective actions are taken as needed.
  • Project Accounting: Your focus will be on translating secured tenders into individual activity and material budgets, consistently monitoring cost capture and challenging contract spend.
  • Business Partnering & Reporting: You will collaborate closely with Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams to optimise costs and support forecasting, while also assisting with month-end close procedures and delivering regular performance analysis.
  • Process Improvement: Leveraging your experience, you will help develop IT systems (utilising tools like Power BI) to streamline cost management and reporting processes.

What you'll need to succeed
  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
    • Advanced Excel skills and costing experience.
    • Familiarity with systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX/NAV is preferred, with additional experience in Power BI as a bonus.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Previous exposure to manufacturing and/or construction environments.
  • Personal Competencies:
    • Strong analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail and data from various sources.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively influence and collaborate.
    • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure with changing priorities.
    • A methodical, self-aware approach that embraces continuous improvement and teamwork.
