Job Description

A prestigious, member-focused sailing and hospitality organisation based in the beautiful Chichester Harbour is seeking an exceptional Club Secretary / General Manager to lead its day to day operations. This is a rare opportunity to take on a high impact leadership role at a thriving, community driven club with a strong heritage and an active membership.

About the Role

As the Club's senior operational leader, you will oversee all aspects of the organisation's activities, ensuring an outstanding experience for Members and guests. This multifaceted position combines the responsibilities of General Manager, Club Secretary, and Health & Safety Officer, requiring a proactive, organised, and people centred professional. You will lead a dedicated team, manage facilities and hospitality services, support sailing operations, and ensure the smooth running of the Club's administrative and statutory functions. The role also includes supporting the Committee and Commodore, managing budgets, and representing the Club externally when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, and manage staff across all departments to deliver consistently high service standards.
  • Oversee daily operations including hospitality, maintenance, Member services, and sailing related activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal, licensing, and health & safety requirements.
  • Act as Company Secretary, maintaining statutory records and supporting governance processes.
  • Manage budgets, suppliers, and operational planning to support the Club's strategic objectives.
  • Work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends during peak season.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven senior management or operational leadership experience in a people focused environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and problem solving abilities.
  • Experience managing budgets and staff teams.
  • Confident IT user with experience in office and management systems.
  • A Personal Licence is desirable but not essential.
  • Sailing knowledge is beneficial but not required.
