Cloud Operations Engineer

Overview

MongoDB Atlas is a multi cloud database as a service platform. The Cloud Operations Engineering team ensures operational success for all Atlas customers worldwide. As a Cloud Operations Engineer you will help secure uptime for customers across the globe while working in a 24/7/365 global team.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and collaborate with global Cloud Operations Engineers to meet uptime guarantees.
• Scale the team by implementing and refining processes and tools.
• Scope, design, and deploy systems that reduce Mean Time to Resolve for customer incidents.
• Monitor and detect emerging customer facing incidents on the Atlas platform; assist in their proactive resolution.
• Automate routine monitoring and troubleshooting tasks.
• Diagnose live incidents, differentiate between platform and usage issues, and take next steps toward resolution.
• Perform root cause analysis after incidents, identify workflow breakdowns and recommend changes to prevent recurrence.
• Contribute to documentation of corner case scenarios, troubleshooting workflows, and SOPs.
• Collaborate with product management, cloud engineering, and support to improve the management applications powering the Atlas infrastructure.
• Inform executive leadership and escalation management of major outages.
• Participate in a weekly on call rotation to handle short term customer incidents.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of on call DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Operations engineering experience.
• Expertise in Linux system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in monitoring, system performance data collection and analysis, and reporting.
• Knowledge of database operations and concepts.
• Expertise with networking technologies such as DNS, TCP/IP, etc.
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and other cloud platforms (GCP, Azure).
• Strong understanding of web and internet technologies.
• Ability to write small programs/scripts to solve systems problems.
• CS/CE degree or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with at least one programming language: Java, Go, or JavaScript.
• Strong willingness to learn new technologies.

Work Schedule

Dublin office location, Monday to Friday. The role includes participation in a weekly on call rotation and occasional coverage outside normal hours for scheduled events.
