West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust seeks NMC Registered Adult Nurses to join the Clinical Validation Team within the Integrated Emergency Operations Centre. Applicants will work collaboratively with colleagues across the service to provide clinical triage of 999 calls, support call assessors and operational crews, and give specialist advice.
Successful applicants will be responsible for safe clinical triage of 999 calls within the clinical queue using the NHSP pathways triage tool/PaCCs, provide advice and support and, where required, refer onward via DoS or electronic transfer to services.
Applicants must be registered with NMC (Adult Nursing) and have at least 2 years post qualification experience.
Full and part time positions are available; the post requires working full rotating shift patterns (all days of the week, days, nights, evenings, weekends / RAL). Part time will be a minimum of 1 day / 1 night (12 hour shifts). Training is completed full time for 4 weeks followed by mentoring shifts - commitment required for part time candidates.

Assess the clinical needs of patients, utilizing NHSP/PaCCs triage tools to support clinical decision making, including:
- Analyse and prioritise verbal information obtained.
- Select and critically analyse available clinical and health resources to inform decisions and identify options for the patient.
- Refer onto services via DoS/electronic referral system.
- Use AccuRx video consultation during triage.
- Identify and address risks to the patient, including safeguarding referrals.
- Work independently and contribute to EOC workstreams, managing workload, risk assessment, and local policies.
- Identify issues affecting service delivery and report them.
- Maintain contemporaneous records in line with NMC/HCPC standards.
- Support new and lesser qualified staff while maintaining full clinical responsibility.
- Facilitate clear patient pathways through primary, community, secondary and tertiary care.
- Promote effective communication and networking within the team.
- Carry out audit activities for continuous improvement.
Communication
Work effectively as a team member, using critical thinking and advanced communication skills to assess patient needs and deliver culturally competent care. Provide a professional, courteous telephone service; utilize translation services and communication aids as required. Engage with health care staff and coordinate with external agencies to maintain consistent communication lines.
Education, training and development
Complete full NHSP course (clinical element, cleric workshop, PaCCs training). Participate in annual reviews, performance reviews, and CPD activities. Mentor new staff and contribute to learning environments. Attend statutory, mandatory, and other relevant training.
Information management and technology
Maintain confidentiality, use information governance requirements, and access software, databases, emails, and intranet resources. Maintain telephony competence.
Governance, quality and service development
Contribute to service standards through quality monitoring, audits, and incident investigations. Adhere to policies, procedures, guidelines, professional codes, and the Trust's Governance framework. Maintain HCPC/NMC registration and professional development. Report incidents and advocate for patients.

- Educated to degree level or possessing work experience demonstrating graduate level ability.
- Minimum of 2 years post registration & autonomous clinical practice or equivalent experience.
- Masters or equivalent specialist knowledge/experience gained through equivalent qualification or experience.
- Understanding of Integrated Governance.
- Evidence of extended specialist CPD.
