Clinical Research Nurse

Building on our track record of delivering pioneering research we are working in collaboration with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge and the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Queen Mary University of London Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) to deliver a clinical trial into the early detection of oesophageal cancer, the BEST4 Screening Study.
This is an exciting project funded by CRUK and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The trial aims to determine whether the Capsule Sponge test can be used to determine early diagnosis of cancer of the oesophagus and reduce the number of deaths due to oesophageal cancer.
Responsibilities- Managing the clinic on the BEST4 mobile unit and providing a welcoming, professional environment for all participants.
- Obtaining informed consent and completing the BEST4 participant screening visit per study protocol.
- Performing the Capsule Sponge test on participants and managing the electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) and related research databases with high accuracy in accordance with ICH GCP.
- Working autonomously to manage caseload of participants while collaborating with the wider BEST4 research team and responding to emergencies (detachment, bleeding, resuscitation or anaphylactic reaction).
- Maintaining local policy and procedure compliance, and updating mandatory training as per local policies, including re training in Capsule Sponge test administration if needed.
- Identifying potential recruitment barriers and implementing action plans as required, and facilitating effective communication with the study team, BEST4 Research Nurses and study participants, attending relevant meetings.
- Liaising with study personnel at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge, CPTU and EMS Healthcare, and driving the BEST4 mobile units to research sites per study schedule.
- Registered nurse (NMC Registration)
- Continued CPD
- Significant post registration clinical experience and experience performing nurse led clinics
- Upper GI or research experience
- Good understanding of clinical research
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal/written)
- Methodical, accurate, with excellent attention to detail
- Team player with ability to work independently and initiative
- Organizational and time management skills
- Proficient IT skills, MS Office
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Willing to travel and complete overnight stays
- Motivated and enthusiastic
- Degree in a related subject area
- ICH GCP training
- Knowledge of national research regulations
- Prior experience in cancer research and endoscopy
- Prior experience working with Capsule Sponge device
