We want to recruit a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to South Cumbria CYPMHS (Children and Young People's Mental Health Service). We are part of Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Area

South Cumbria CYPMHS covers a large geographical area that includes the towns of Kendal, Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness, as well as the surrounding countryside and coastal areas. As a result, our patch covers both rural and urban areas, with diverse needs in the local population.

Main duties of the job

The team is based in Alfred Barrow Health Centre in Barrow in Furness, which is within walking distance of the train station, providing good transport links to Lancaster, Preston and Manchester.

The role involves delivering clinical psychology services to children and young people, including assessment, therapy and supervision. You will work within a multidisciplinary team and have access to local trainee clinical psychologists on placement at Lancaster University.

Team

Our supportive CYPMH team includes team leaders, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, a GP with an Extended Role, senior CAMHS practitioners, CAMHS practitioners, CBT therapists, systemic family therapists, DBT therapists, triage workers and assistant practitioners. Nurses, social workers and doctors also contribute to our skills mix.

About us

Psychological therapies currently offered by clinicians within the team include CBT; family therapy; DBT; EMDR; CATT. We also offer structured clinical management (SCM).

Supervision will be offered by an experienced clinical psychologist, and opportunities for therapy specific supervision and further neuropsychology qualification are available.

Job responsibilities

Deliver specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children, young people and their families across outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings. Provide supportive supervision to trainees and maintain a professional stance in emotionally challenging situations.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Doctoral level training (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, accredited by the BPS.
  • Eligibility for registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical).
  • Pre qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other applied psychology fields.
Knowledge
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Knowledge of child protection and accompanying policies/processes and their clinical implementation.
  • Skills in using complex psychological assessment, intervention and management methods.
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children, young people and their families across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups across the full life course and presenting problems reflecting the full range of clinical severity, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in emotionally challenging circumstances.

Pre employment checks

Successful candidates will be required to pay for their own DBS check at a cost of £50, with deductions taken from the first three months' salary.

Salary

£47,810 to £54,710 a year (subject to confirmation)
