Job overview We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced radiographer for this exciting clinical manager post . You must be a dedicated radiographer who is interested in service improvement, the professional development of yourself and others and who is enthusiastic about taking the service forward, as well as supporting the rest of the radiology department. You must have experience in the relevant modality.

The Radiology Department performed over 350,000 examinations last year including all modalities. The imaging service comprises of 13 plain film rooms across 2 main sites and 3 satellite sites, 2 OPG rooms and 1 Dental room including cone beam CT, 1 Dexa room and 7 mobile units and 6 mobile image intensifiers. 6 CT scanners , 3 MRI scanners as well as a number of US rooms across 6 sites. The CDC service is based at the St Helens site which comprises of 4 plain film rooms, 2 MRI scanners, 3 CT scanners, 1 Dexa (soon to be replaced), 1 Dental with OPG/Ceph and cone beam, 1 fluoro room, 2 mobile machines, 2 mobile image intensifiers and 5 ultrasound rooms. The post holder will be crucial in supporting the development and management of the CDC services and expanding the service to cover 7 days.

A Standard DBS Certificate is required for this position.

The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change.

Main duties of the job
  • We are a forward thinking department with many opportunities to develop. We have a number of advanced practitioners in all modalities . The successful candidate must be able to support the department in keeping abreast of new technologies and practices.
  • This post will involve clinical radiographic sessions as well as managerial responsibilities (clinical/managerial 20/80 split) and may include some out-of-hours commitment. Established advanced practice welcome and will be supported. The post holder will have operational management responsibilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities KEY DUTIES
  • Responsible for the day to day management of the CDC service.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient running of the CDC service with due regard to available resources. Allocating activity to ensure maximised use of capacity. Using data to inform decisions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and modernisation of CDC services ensuring implementation of improvements to provide a Radiology whole system approach.
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of CDC service delivery with regard to waiting times, ensuring that waiting times are kept to a minimum. Monitor targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate capacity and demand data.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership qualities and promote teamwork
  • Undertake initial investigation of patient and user complaints and exercising judgement and initiative take appropriate actions to resolve the problem/complaint
  • Promote a working culture that improves quality and promote quality initiatives.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations in accordance with departmental protocols Be competent in the use of all appropriate imaging equipment.
  • Participate in on call, flexible working and out of hours service as required.
  • Abide by all radiation protection regulations and undertake the role of radiation protection supervisor.
  • Justify examinations as appropriate.
  • Responsible for clinical and professional standards within the CDC Department
  • Identify and contribute to service development within the CDC Department and link to wider Radiology Department improvement
  • Responsible for implementing policies and procedures with CDC and contribute to Radiology Trust policies
  • Responsible for the maintenance and servicing of all equipment, liaise and communicate with manufacturers
  • Responsible for optimum use of resources and maintain adequate stock levels
  • Participate in the procurement (specification, evaluation and selection) of CDC equipment
  • Participate in the project management of new equipment installations and replacement projects
  • Promote quality initiatives, ensuring the quality of patient care and compliance of quality standards
  • Responsible for Quality Assurance programme
  • Responsible for the maintenance of electronic diaries for appointments and therefore the daily workload
  • Responsible for data collection and analysis of information
  • Promote compliance with all Trust risk management procedures and ensure risk management strategies are implemented including Health & Safety legislation for RSI, COSHH, VDU use, handling of patients, fire regulations and security etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, professional and organisational requirements. Liaising with outside agencies to ensure compliance with statutory regulations when required. Ensure all documentation associated with regulations are kept and stored appropriately
  • Ensure staff are compliant with relevant registration and assess competencies.
  • Responsible for completing overtime rotas and populating e-roster to ensure all duties are recorded correctly. Responsible for finalisation of e-roster
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients on complex, contentious and sensitive issues.
  • Communicate service related information to senior managers, staff and external agencies.
  • Maintain a patient, courteous manner in all aspects of communication with patients and staff especially in distressing situations
  • Monitor and action dose discrepancies via dose monitor alerts. Produce dose audits and DRLs
  • Monitor incidents within CT/MR that are reported via datix.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
  • Responsible for the training and development of radiographic staff.
  • Contribute to the continuing education programme by attending courses and keeping abreast of current professional developments.
  • Contribute to the departments' CPD programme by presenting lectures.
  • Provide highly specialist knowledge and support to the wards, departments and clinical staff
  • To attend other training courses relevant to the post
RESEARCH & AUDIT
  • Participate in the audit of current techniques; keep up to date with the research and development of new techniques
  • Participate in the departmental audit and research programmes Undertake audit with other staff including radiologists
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE
  • To support the Trusts clinical governance agenda by understanding the key priorities for change and ensuring that new developments utilise the objectives within the governance agenda.
