Job Description

Job title: Clinical Nursing Manager
Location: Blythwood Vets
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours/week, plus 1 in 5 weekends, and participation in an on-call rota
Salary: £36,000 - £39,000 depending on skills and experience held

Blythwood (part of Linnaeus) are seeking to appoint a Clinical Nursing Manager to join the Senior Leadership Team and support the nurse teams across two key branches : Bushey and Hatch End.

The clinical team brings a variety of experience, and a typical day sees an interesting and varied caseload, including routine surgery, orthopaedics, dentistry, and diverse medical cases. The role involves leading from the front while delivering high standards of patient and client care, with an ongoing focus on development and growth.

Your role and responsibilities

As Clinical Nursing Manager, you will be an advocate for veterinary nursing, creating a culture of clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development across the practice. This role balances clinical work and leadership, with an emphasis on team management, rota oversight, nurse utilisation, and service delivery across two branches.

You will ensure quality assurance of nursing care and standard operating procedures and lead the implementation of CPD and training initiatives aligned with our vision for growth. Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide strategic, professional, and operational input while ensuring clinical standards and team wellbeing remain a priority.

The Clinical Nursing Manager will also act as a key member of the wider leadership team, contributing to discussions around resource management, workflow, financial considerations, and strategic planning.

Given current staffing levels and recruitment conditions, the CNM will be expected to work predominantly clinically in the short term, supporting the team day-to-day, while progressively integrating more non-clinical responsibilities. Flexibility, resilience, and team spirit will be essential.

What we're looking for:
• A Registered Veterinary Nurse with a minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience post-RCVS registration
• At least 1 year of previous leadership or line management experience (e.g., Lead RVN or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams across multiple locations
• Comfortable managing both clinical duties and leadership responsibilities
• Strong team player with excellent communication and people-management skills
• Driving licence preferred - ability to travel independently between branches (Bushey & Hatch End) is required
• Experience or training in leadership, clinical supervision or mentoring is desirable

What a typical week may include:
• Clinical shifts including early (8am-4pm) and late shifts (11am-7pm) as part of team rota
• Weekend rota: 1 in 5 weekends (Saturday or Sunday), with occasional on-call duty
• Time on site will be determined by rota needs, including coverage during staff absence or college leave
• Rota planning and workforce coordination for the nursing team
• Supporting two SVNs and mentoring junior RVNs where required
• Regular liaison with senior leadership to represent the nursing perspective in practice-wide goals and initiatives

What we offer
• 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave
• Relocation support
• RCVS and VDS fees paid
• Employer contribution pension scheme
• Life assurance
• E-car salary sacrifice scheme
• Enhanced equal family leave
• Extensive internal and funded external CPD opportunities
• Nurse Career Framework with structured progression and support for advanced qualifications
• Access to experienced Mental Health First Aiders across the group
• Confidential Employee Assistance Programme available to all Associates
