Job Description
Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in Surgery

This role involves leading a highly specialist physiotherapy service for surgical patients at Royal Cornwall Hospital, working closely with the Prehabilitation team and the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Provide highly specialist physiotherapy service to patients in the establishment of a surgical service.

Deliver specialist assessments, treatment and goal setting with patients pre surgical interventions with complex presentations and co morbidities to optimise patient flow.

Develop the physiotherapy pathway service provision for surgical patients, research and implement innovative ways of working for patients. This could be group work or use of technology.

Develop relationships and working practices with the surgical inpatient team to optimise the timing of input for these patients.

Work alongside the Surgical Prehabilitation Lead, delegating tasks equally to manage, change and develop clinical areas while maintaining specialised knowledge and competence.

Collaborate with the Inpatient Therapy Manager, Therapy Lead and Professional Lead in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.

Enhance specialist skills and support guidance of senior staff.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of further formal study
  • Membership of the CSP
  • Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups
Experience
  • Comprehensive experience in an acute hospital setting, including a range of post qualification rotations at Band 5 and Band 6 level
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills
  • Highly developed skills in managing staff, including challenging behaviours
  • Highly developed communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of on call and out of hours working
Practical and Intellectual Skills
  • Respect for other professionals within the team
  • Evidence of clinical audit/research activity
