Clinical Engineer - Estates

We are recruiting for a Clinical Enginee who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Clinical Engineer is responsible for the lifecycle management of medical equipment within the EBME Department, ensuring all devices are maintained, calibrated, and compliant with safety standards. Additionally, the engineer will assist with other clinical engineering tasks and projects as needed to support the EBME Services.

Provide clinical technical services including preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection, and repair for a variety of medical equipment.

Liaise effectively with clinical users to clearly understand equipment issues, assess the severity and potential impact, and prioritize responses based on urgency.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Engineer will perform fault diagnosis using appropriate fault-finding techniques; report any novel or unusual faults to the Team Lead.

Exercise sound judgment to identify root causes of equipment malfunctions.

Verify that equipment functions according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Conduct calibration, quality control, safety testing, and acceptance testing to ensure optimal device performance.

Perform electrical and functional safety checks to maintain compliance with safety standards.

Perform preventative maintenance in clinical areas according to the EBME maintenance schedule.

Person Specification Previous Experience
  • Engineering experience working in a medical device's environment.
  • NHS Experience
Skills
  • Technical proficiency in medical device maintenance, repair, calibration, and safety testing
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clinical staff, suppliers, and team members.
  • Organizational skills for managing equipment records, inventory, and maintenance schedules.
  • IT skills, including experience with asset management systems and electronic documentation.
Knowledge
  • Medical Equipment Technology: Understanding of the principles, operation, and components of a wide range of medical devices and equipment
  • Lifecycle Management: Knowledge of equipment maintenance, calibration, safety checks etc
  • Electrical Safety: Awareness of electrical and functional safety testing protocols for medical devices.
  • Regulatory Standards: Familiarity with UK healthcare regulations and standards including HTM 06-01, MHRA medical device alerts, IEC 62353 series, and other relevant safety guidelines
Qualifications / Training
  • Degree or HND in Clinical/ Electronics Engineering
