Term: 5th August 2026 - 3 August 2027

Position Overview

The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Services in NHS Fife, together with the Scottish Arthroplasty Fellow Research Sub Committee, is appointing a clinical and research fellow. The post is a 1 year fixed term role, 50 % clinical in NHS Fife Orthopaedics and 50 % research based. It is ideal for an individual preparing to apply for either ST1 or ST3 level NTN in Trauma and Orthopaedics, looking to develop their research portfolio while continuing to build clinical experience.

Clinical Responsibilities

Based in the orthopaedic department at NHS Fife University Health Board, the fellow will provide clinical activity across OPD, ward and theatre cover. The post will also participate in the middle grade on call rota, including out of hours (currently a 1:16 partial shift rota).

Research Responsibilities

The fellow will conduct both self directed research and allocated projects from the SAP Research Sub Committee. Additionally, the post holder is expected to carry out quality improvement and research projects for NHS Fife, publish in high quality peer reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.

Teaching Responsibilities

The post holder will assist with teaching medical students from St Andrews and may participate in audit or quality improvement projects during the appointment.

Location and Working Hours

The position is based at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, but occasional work may be required at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline and St Andrews Memorial Hospital. The work schedule includes NHS Fife orthopaedic duties and research time.
