Clinical Academic Fellow - Child Health

This is an exciting 12-month fixed term position within Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. We seek talented Clinical Academic Fellows who can help medical students achieve learning objectives across themes in the MBBS curricula, including teaching, assessment, and supervision of student cohorts from King's College London (KCL) and the University of Southampton (UoS).
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will play a lead role in undergraduate medical education, collaborating with the Undergraduate Educational Team and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include:
- Teach and contribute to the preparation, delivery and assessment of clinical and educational requirements in Child Health, including clinical skills provision, bedside teaching, support of clinical opportunities, facilitation workshops, and participation in OSCE exams.
- Participate in the local induction and orientation of each block of students during the academic year.
- Contribute to curriculum development through subject group meetings.
- Ensure teaching material, methods and approaches are current through scholarly activity, professional practice and personal development.
- Manage delivery of own teaching, scholarly and administrative activities with guidance where required.
- Provide pastoral tutoring and support to enable students to thrive.
- Supervise student projects and placements; act as personal tutor and mentor.
- Participate in student assessment processes as appropriate.
- Engage in internal networks and subject group meetings benefiting education at the University of Portsmouth, KCL and UoS.
- Signpost students in difficulty to appropriate support.
- Notify senior colleagues if a student's performance or conduct raises patient safety concerns.
- Participate in quality assurance and monitoring of teaching delivery, reviewing feedback and discussing with colleagues.
- Duty of care for personal health, safety, well being and that of colleagues, visitors and patients, including safeguarding processes.
- Observe PHUT rules, policies, procedures, standards and all statutory/professional obligations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of personal information regarding patients, students and staff.
- Be responsible for personal development and contribute to colleague development.

Person Specification Experience- Minimum 2 years clinical experience in paediatrics.
- Expertise in medicine and clinical skills, and competency to practice and teach extended practical skills.
- Knowledge and willingness to use e learning platforms.
- Knowledge of clinical governance.
- Experience working clinically within the NHS.
- Keep CPD up to date and maintain clinical expertise.
- Completion of the MRCPCH examination.
- Relevant teaching experience with evidence of success; ability to motivate and support students.
- Registered with the GMC, with a full licence to practice.
- Completion of mandatory training: paediatric BLS and children's safeguarding (Level 3).
- Participation in education training and/or interest in obtaining a higher qualification in medical education.
- APLS/EPLS.
