Job Description
Job Summary

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Cleaning Operative on a part time, permanent basis.

Reporting to

Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Cleaning)

Main purpose of the role

To maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all assigned areas, helping to provide a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assisting with keeping designated areas clean, including hallways, floors, toilets, showers and classrooms.
  • Using the cleaning equipment and materials to carry out duties safely, including diluting and using cleaning chemicals following COSHH regulations.
  • Operating cleaning machinery in accordance with instructions and within Health & Safety guidelines, keeping the machinery clean and safe, and reporting faults to the Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Cleaning).
  • Carrying out emergency cleaning as required, for example as a result of accidents or sickness.
  • Reporting defects such as faulty plugs or fuses to your supervisor.
  • Taking appropriate Health & Safety precautions when carrying out duties, thereby ensuring the personal safety of all staff, pupils and visitors.
  • Responding to any other reasonable management request.
Person Specification

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Physical fitness, encompassing the ability to bend, stretch, lean, reach and carry heavy, awkward items.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
  • The ability to work both alone and in a team.
  • A polite, friendly and helpful attitude.
  • The ability to speak confidently and courteously to parents, pupils and staff at all levels of seniority.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • The ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Some of your work may be physically demanding and involve lifting, and you may also need to work at heights using ladders.
  • In house cleaning training will be provided to NVQ level 2 standards.
Hours of Work

Monday to Friday, 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm (15 hours per week).

Remuneration

The salary for this role will be £10,530 per annum, at a rate of £13.50 per hour.

Holidays

23 days, plus bank holidays. Increases to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service.
