Job Description

Cleaning Operative

Prospect Bank

Salary: £26,205 - £26,525 (pro rata for part time and sessional).

Hours: 15 per week (sessional, 40 weeks). Monday - Thursday 3 pm-6 pm, Friday 1 pm-4 pm.

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of our Facilities Management team. You will deliver a vital cleaning service across our estate to ensure our properties are safe and clean places to work or learn, while enjoying secure and flexible employment with above market rates and excellent conditions. You will also balance family, caring or study commitments.

Major Tasks / Job Activities
  • Empty litter and recycling bins.
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings.
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables.
  • Carry out emergency and reactive cleaning as required, e.g. removal of graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages.
  • Care for and keep all equipment used during cleaning duties in good condition.
  • Perform any other tasks reasonably required that relate to the role, including supporting cleaning tasks across other buildings where required.
  • Deliver to cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement to meet overall agreed standards.
Keyholding and Security

You will be a key holder and responsible for enabling opening and closing of the buildings we service. Duties include operation of security alarm systems, closing windows and doors, switching off lights and ensuring premises are left safe and secure when closing.

Pre Employment Checks

This position is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If the individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required and must be provided. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range reflects the initial starting salary and increases annually until it reaches the top of the range.
