York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for approachable and flexible Cleaning & Catering Operatives to join our team at Scarborough General Hospital. Experience is not necessary as full training will be given, but a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential.

The main function of this post is to participate in maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area, and providing a catering service.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role are maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area, and provide a catering service on the wards.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the ward/area you are assigned to is cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for that area. This will include lifting items and operating cleaning machinery, some of which is industrial standard
  • Undertaking specialist cleaning as required under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Nurse in Charge and/or Infection Prevention Department
  • Assisting with the distribution of meals to wards
  • Plating up of meals, ensuring the dietary requirements of patients are met
  • Making and distributing hot drinks and cleaning and refilling water jugs

Person Specification Skills and attributes
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
Education, qualifications and training
  • Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
  • A willingness to complete appropriate qualifications or training relevant to the role as and when required
  • BICSc Qualification/NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning/Catering or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge Required
  • An understanding of the importance of hygiene
  • An understanding of the importance of health and safety procedures: OSCHH procedures, Infection prevention and control, Knowledge of the safe use of cleaning equipment/machinery
  • Experience of working in cleaning industry
