Middlesbrough Council is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and community-focused individual to join our Democratic Services team as a Civic Engagement and Armed Forces Liaison Officer.
In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide support to a wide range of civic events and functions, including Citizenship Ceremonies, Town Hall visits, commemorative events and other civic engagements. You will also take the lead on the Council's Armed Forces Covenant responsibilities, working with partners, and the Armed Forces Champion to ensure our commitments are delivered and our Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award status is maintained.
As a key ambassador for the Council, you will build positive relationships with local organisations, community groups and Armed Forces representatives, promoting civic pride and supporting community engagement across Middlesbrough.
About YouWe are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about public service and committed to Middlesbrough Council's values.
- Has experience in an administrative role
- Has excellent organisational, communication and customer service skills
- Is confident using Microsoft Office applications
- Can build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Is able to work independently whilst managing multiple priorities
Experience in a civic, democratic services or Armed Forces liaison role would be advantageous, as would experience working within the public sector and alongside elected members.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Leading on administrative arrangements relating to civic functions and ceremonies
- Leading on the Armed Forces Covenant and related commitments
- Supporting the Armed Forces Champion and responding to enquiries from veterans.
- Taking responsibility for the upkeep of civic regalia, flags, heritage assets, honours boards and books of remembrance.
- Providing advice on civic matters to Members and officers
- Representing the Council at meetings, events and community forums
- Working with communications colleagues to promote civic engagement activities
