Childrens Emergency Department Specialty Doctor

In summary, the role of a middle grade doctor in a children's emergency department is multifaceted, involving clinical expertise, leadership, education and effective communication to provide high quality care for paediatric patients in emergency situations.

Job responsibilities
  • Initial Assessment and Triage: Conduct thorough clinical assessments of children presenting to the ED, including history, physical exam, and case prioritisation.
  • Diagnosis and Management: Make timely and accurate diagnoses, formulating appropriate treatment plans.
  • Clinical Decision Making: Decide on management of acute and chronic paediatric conditions in high pressure settings.
  • Supervision and Support: Provide supervision and guidance to junior doctors and support nursing and allied health staff.
  • Managing Acute Emergencies: Respond to and manage life threatening emergencies such as trauma, respiratory failure, sepsis, or cardiac arrest.
  • Consultations: Collaborate with or consult senior clinicians when complex cases arise.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform procedures such as intravenous cannulation, lumbar puncture, endotracheal intubation, and sedation as needed.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Work: Work closely with specialists, radiologists, social workers and paramedics to ensure best care.
Qualifications
  • RCPCH / MRCEM
  • APLS
  • BLS / ALS
Experience

Mid Senior level required.
