Job overviewBand 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse - Children's Emergency Department
The Children's Emergency Department at The Horton General Hospital currently has a vacancy for a Children's Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. We are a friendly team of skilled practitioners, committed to delivering compassionate care in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for highly skilled and motivated nurses who are proactive and keen to develop their career in Emergency Medicine. You will need to be an enthusiastic individual with good communication and leadership skills and a passion for delivering high-quality care as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the jobThe overall purpose of this role is to:
- Act as the shift co-ordinator on a day-to-day basis, providing supervision and support to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Develop, manage and monitor the performance of a team of nurses, ensuring high standards of care and safety.
- Promote effective communication and teamwork at all levels.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership and specialist knowledge.
- Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in staffing management, clinical governance and risk management within the Emergency Department.
- Contribute to the strategic and operational development of the department.

Person specification Education/training/experience- Registered Paediatric Nurse
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and NMC revalidation
- Mentorship qualification (NMC approved)
- Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience
- UK-recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post
- Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice
- Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others
- Maintain and develop standards of practice and decision-making with the team
- Lead by example to reinforce the Trust's values and behaviours
- Supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care
- Escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
- Experience managing clinical incidents and complaints
- Experience in the relevant specialty and in substantive management of a clinical area
- Deliver high standards of care; work proactively within the team
- Document observations and decisions accurately in patient notes
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
- Educate learners and less experienced staff
- Manage, direct and evaluate nursing care for a defined caseload
- Administer intravenous medicines and central venous access management
- Put patients at the heart of care; demonstrate integrity, respect and teamwork
- Deliver high-quality care and strive for continuous improvement
- Support colleagues in delivering care aligned with Trust values
- Keep up to date with professional issues affecting nursing practice
