What We Do - Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland

The SCSI is the leading professional body for construction, land, and property surveying professionals in Ireland. It has over 7,000 members nationwide and, in conjunction with RICS, awards the Chartered Surveyor professional qualification which is the internationally recognised mark of excellence in the surveying profession. SCSI acts in the public interest; setting and maintaining the highest standards of competence and integrity among the profession; and providing impartial, authoritative data driven advice on key built and natural environment issues for business, society and government.

The Opportunity

Reporting to: The President and Board of SCSI

The role of the CEO is to lead and direct SCSI on behalf of the Board by agreeing, communicating and implementing the organisation's vision, mission and overall strategic direction. The CEO will have full responsibility for SCSI's operations, compliance and performance and will provide leadership to the senior team, acting as the central link between the Board and management. This role requires an exemplary leader, skilled in professional representation across a diverse range of stakeholders, with strong experience in governance, strategy, change management and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities Strategy & Leadership
  • Working in collaboration with the Board, lead the management and staff in the successful running of the organisation, providing clear leadership and direction to the senior management team.
  • Provide visionary leadership to ensure the SCSI anticipates and responds proactively to evolving industry trends, technological change, and member needs.
  • Champion innovation and thought leadership within the profession, ensuring the SCSI remains the authoritative voice for the sector.
  • Serve as a leading advocate for the surveying profession, influencing policy, regulation, and public understanding through evidence-based advocacy and thought leadership.
  • Lead the development, agreement, implementation of and reporting on the SCSI's strategic plan.
  • Act as principal advisor on strategic matters to the President, Board and Council and Chairpersons of all Groups and Committees
  • Oversee the provision of high quality and cost effective services to members. The CEO will engage with members and build strong relationships ensuring that the SCSI is seen to represent members effectively, efficiently and professionally
Governance & Compliance
  • Promote best practise governance within the SCSI at all times, ensuring an effective governance structure that optimises member engagement and representation
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements including the charities regulator
  • Act as Secretariat to relevant committees as required including the Council and providing support to the SCSI Company Secretary
  • Proactive risk management and acting as governance advisor to the SCSI Board and Council
Promotion & Representation
  • Build strategic alliances with academia, industry partners, and international professional bodies to advance the influence and reputation of SCSI.
  • Identify opportunities to promote the profession and make representations on behalf of members and in the public interest, maximising the impact of member data and insights
  • Manage and maintain strong relations with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Represent SCSI in the public arena and ensure a recognisable, credible voice for the Society with key stakeholders and influencers including the media and Government. Oversee all media, PR and communications.
  • Identify new avenues and opportunities to grow the membership and to retain the support of existing members.
Finance & Operations
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure organisational performance, member satisfaction, and strategic progress.
  • Responsible for overall financial performance of the organisation, overseeing all SCSI finances and operations, including financial controls, audit, quarterly and annual accounts and preparation and implementation of annual budget against controls.
  • Ensuring prudent financial management at all times to maximise member services and the value proposition of membership
  • Identify new revenue streams and sponsorship/partnership opportunities
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence to ensure achievement of annual business plans. Responsible for all Human Resource policies, practices and issues in relation to staff including recruitment and retention.
ESG
  • Promote a positive culture, with a focus on employee and member well-being where all are included and respected
  • Leverage data, technology, and digital tools to enhance member experience, operational efficiency, and strategic insight.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Digitisation Strategy for the profession in support of members practice and wider industry
  • Promote ESG best practice including a focus on DEI and sustainability
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The CEO should have outstanding and proven leadership, communication and influencing skills. They must be able to win trust and respect. Knowledge of the property and construction sectors, while distinctly beneficial, is not essential.

  • Foster a high-performance culture aligned with SCSI values, supporting staff development, succession planning, and talent retention across the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and change, balancing strategic vision with operational discipline.
  • High emotional intelligence and authenticity, fostering trust, inclusivity, and collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience engaging effectively with Boards and operating in complex governance environments.
  • Ability to make transparent, mission-aligned decisions that reflect member interests while ensuring long-term organisational sustainability
  • A successful track record in senior management, preferably in the delivery of professional services and/or within a membership organisation.
  • A strategic thinker with a pragmatic perspective. Capable of formulating and implementing policies and developing appropriate responses to emerging issues and advising members.
  • Highly skilled and experienced in leadership, innovation and change management.
  • Very strong people skills with the ability to motivate and influence at all levels of the organisation. Influential, persuasive and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Engaging and effective communication with members and wide range of stakeholders
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining impactful relationships with Government and other relevant agencies.
  • Knowledge of the "how to" in advocacy and representation; an appropriate public face, highly regarded, credible.
  • Strong financial management, organisational and operational skills
