Job Description

New Local is seeking a Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next stage of its journey to transform place based public services and unlock community power.

Who We Are

New Local is an independent think tank and network of councils, with a mission to transform public services and unlock community power. We create sustainable, community led public services for around 50 councils and other organisations around the UK.

About the Role

As Chief Executive, you will bring energy, creativity and ambition to work alongside an experienced strategic leadership team to deliver the organisation's strategy and unlock community power. The role requires an entrepreneurial thought leader who champions New Local's vision and shapes opportunities into programmes that deliver real impact.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the strategic direction of New Local and partner with senior national and local policymakers to transform public services.
  • Lead and nurture the organisation to embed a culture of innovation, collaboration and community power impact.
  • Represent New Local at the national level and build relationships with councils, government, the private sector and community organisations.
  • Ensure sustainable financial and performance management of the organisation.
  • Set the strategic agenda, governance and risk management in partnership with the Board.
Qualifications
  • Proven track record in senior strategic leadership of a public service or policy organisation.
  • Deep understanding of local government finance, service delivery and public trust challenges.
  • Experience creating cultures that empower colleagues to innovate and build collaboration and consensus.
  • Excellent communication, public presence, stakeholder engagement and partnership skills.
  • Financial and performance management experience and the ability to secure sustainable funding streams.
