Overview

Chief Cardiac Physiologist (CRM) - Fixed Term (12-month maternity cover). The closing date is 30 September 2025.

We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. We are a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking to expand our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists as our invasive services expand. This post involves rotation through all aspects of the department, with a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service and involvement with a 24/7 PPCI service.

Applicants should have an extensive bradycardia and complex pacing post-qualification experience including remote monitoring and FSN management. A BSc in Clinical Physiology/HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration are desirable. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Further postgraduate learning for CRM (HRUK/IBHRE) is essential. Successful applicants may rotate across both sites.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide clinical management, education and support in cardiac rhythm management service, including remote monitoring and actions on field safety notices (FSNs) and the technical invasive cardiology service, and to assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within diagnostics and the angiography suite.
  • To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive) and to supervise, teach and support PCI and diagnostic angiography where appropriate.
  • To demonstrate competency in CRM implants including complex devices and autonomous CRM follow-up.
  • To maintain a progressive learning environment within invasive cardiology to support development across the team.
  • To work within a 24/7 PPCI service and participate in weekend on-call as part of a rotation.

Job responsibilities

Clinical duties and responsibilities: To participate in the provision of the cardiac rhythm management service including remote monitoring, actions on FSNs, and the invasive cardiology service; to assist during the full range of cardiac procedures in diagnostics and the angiography suite; to maintain standards of technical competency in invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures; to prioritise daily workload, respond to emergencies promptly, identify equipment faults and resolve them or report them; to provide first-line interpretation and full technical reports of tests; to stay up to date with trends in clinical physiology and transfer knowledge to staff; to assist with research studies as required; to participate in a 24/7 on-call service as required. Administrative responsibilities include timely data entry on Solus and Cerner, booking appointments, stock management, and effective communication with staff, patients and visitors.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or Equivalent
  • Intermediate Life Support Skills
  • HRUK or IBHRE in Devices
  • Autonomous in CRM implants and follow-ups
  • Higher Professional qualification/Masters level
  • RCCP/AHCS Registration
Experience and Knowledge
  • Extensive experience in cardiac rhythm management including remote monitoring, FSN management and physiological measurements
  • Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiology with competency in simple and complex PCI and device implants
  • Experience participating in a 24/7 PPCI service
  • Ability to lead in ECG, ETT, Ambulatory Monitoring, pacing and complex device follow-up
  • Staff teaching/mentoring and staff management
  • Experience of stock control
