Job Description
Job Summary 
Job holders will provide faith/belief and pastoral care to prisoners and staff of their own faith/belief tradition, while also meeting the pastoral needs of people of other faiths, beliefs, and none as part of a multi faith chaplaincy team. The role requires understanding and knowledge of other faiths, supporting prisoners' resettlement, and contributing to policy delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Provide guidance on their faith/belief system, delivering pastoral care to prisoners, staff and families.
- Plan and lead worship, meditation, prayer and faith specific meetings.
- Facilitate worship, meditation, study and religious programmes; coordinate with other chaplains, volunteers and external groups.
- Contribute to development of local policy, procedures and practice.
- Administer pastoral care in crisis situations; mentor other chaplains and volunteers.
- Nurture Chaplaincy volunteers and coordinate the Official Prison Visitor scheme.
- Ensure community awareness of faith events and provide relevant literature.
- Develop training programmes for staff and volunteers; deliver Faith Awareness Training.
- Represent chaplaincy on establishment meetings and committees.
- Support the Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) process and attend boards/committees.
- Take on additional roles with agreement from Managing Chaplain, e.g. Family Liaison Officer, volunteer coordinator.
- Forge links with local faith communities and agencies to support prisoners on release.
- Participate in achieving targets and manage relevant administration, data collection and analysis.
- Must hold or be able to complete the specific qualifications for the area of specialism.
- Faith/Belief Eligibility: Ordained Bishop, Priest, or Deacon; Reader, Religious Brother/Sister, Church Army Evangelist; or lay person. Must meet respective professional endorsement, diocesan DBS clearance and safeguarding training.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Anglican theology and practice; obtain endorsement from HMPPS Anglican Faith and Belief Adviser.
Part time, 15 hours per week.
