Central Production Kitchen Stores and Kitchen porter

Northampton General Hospital has an excellent opportunity for a Stores and Kitchen Porter to join our catering team. This role is essential for the smooth delivery of patient food services and supports the work of our chefs in the Central Production Kitchen.
Responsibilities- Transport food between patient catering kitchens and wards, including safe transport from the Central Production Kitchen to ward kitchens.
- Receive, check deliveries, and maintain accurate records for receipts, storage, and distribution of goods.
- Carry out date labelling, stock rotation, and ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, COSHH, etc.).
- Assist with a variety of tasks within the kitchen environment to support daily operations.
- Carry out cleaning duties to maintain hygiene across food production areas, ancillary rooms, fridges, and catering equipment.
- Operate electric transportation vehicles in line with Trust policies.
- Previous experience working in a food production environment.
- Experience in cleaning, stock rotation, and food handling.
- Experience operating catering equipment or transportation vehicles.
- Aware of food safety procedures and able to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning materials/equipment.
- Ability to follow departmental procedures and Trust policies.
- Organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet daily/weekly goals.
- Basic numerical and literacy skills for stock labelling, rotation, and record keeping.
- Ability to operate electric transportation vehicles safely.
- No formal education required; learning on the job with theoretical knowledge provided. Must be able to retain information and exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Awareness of COSHH, HACCP, and Health & Safety regulations.
- Manual handling training.
