Job Description
Role Overview 
Catering Assistant (fixed term, 6 months) - Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny. The role delivers an efficient, timely meal service to all patients in compliance with infection control standards, HACCP regulations and other hospital procedures.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesCatering Duties
- Tray setting, cleaning trays and contents.
- Taking patient meal orders, paying particular attention to dietary requirements.
- Serving meals and communicating with nursing staff regarding patient dietary requirements.
- Cleaning equipment and associated work areas in accordance with cleaning schedules, using recommended detergents.
- Working closely with the Catering Supervisor, Ward Managers, Hospital Dietician and other staff members to ensure nutritional and dietary requirements are met.
- May be required to work in the hospital canteen/coffee dock to cover leave.
Housekeeping / Cleaning
- Maintain the correct standard as per housekeeping and HACCP guidelines.
- Clean equipment and associated areas of work in accordance with cleaning schedules.
- Comply with hospital procedures and standards of dress and personal hygiene.
- Comply with any reasonable request as directed by the Catering Manager or other designated supervisor/manager.
Temperature Monitoring
- Record and monitor the temperature of all food in line with HACCP Standards.
- Check the temperature of all refrigerator, freezers and dishwasher as required.
Training
- Attend HACCP Training.
- Attend all mandatory education sessions.
Accreditation
- Familiarise with policies, procedures and guidelines related to the area.
- Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.
Lean
- Support and participate in problem solving and continuous improvement using lean tools and techniques.
- Attend/participate in on site training as required.
- Minimise waste and improve waste reduction.
Quality & Safety - Safe Culture
- Engage in daily quality and safety activities in collaboration with line managers.
- Plan, monitor, analyse and improve quality programmes.
- Develop performance indicators in conjunction with the department manager and business objectives.
- Initiate, participate in and evaluate audits according to JCI, hospital policy and Lean requirements.
Health and Safety
- Take reasonable care to protect own safety, health and welfare and that of others.
- Co operate with the hospital to ensure safety and report any potentially dangerous situations.
- Attend annual education sessions on fire, health and safety.
Personnel & General
- Follow uniform policy reference AEH/HOS/FAC/021.
- Potential to work in other areas of the hospital during the working day or week.
- Provide satisfactory documentary evidence of training and experience if required.
- Respect the Hospital Mission Statement.
- Update knowledge and skills to meet changing service requirements.
- Maintain flexibility in working pattern and location to meet business needs.
Essential
- Educated to Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
- Up to date HACCP training.
- Interpersonal & communication skills - excellent listening, verbal communication and ability to work with other disciplines.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines.
- Willingness to adapt positively to change.
- Self disciplined with time management skills to respond to changing priorities and workload.
- Strong commitment to high quality customer service and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Previous work experience.
Salary - €30 000.00 - €38 796.00 per annum (39 hour week).
