This is a key role within the newly established Strategic Procurement function reporting directly into the Head of Procurement.
The role in fundamental in leading on some of the key spend Categories reviews to ensure cost saving, risk mitigation and value creation (including sustainability).
This often means a pro-active, highly collaborative, dynamic approach and delivery of Procurement best practices with a clear focus on output.
This role is expected to lead or support in categories such as Consumables, Corporate services, IT (eg Tech / Comms/ Data), Fleet (including services), Commercial Services (eg cleaning, security, Cash in transit) with support for other categories such as Waste Disposal services, FM (eg Plant, Building Maintenance and Capital buildings). Some categories may not require full category management however strategic mentoring of stakeholders to drive value and mitigate commercial risk may be required.
Allocation of categories will not only depend on the strategic goals of the organisation but may also take into consideration the skills, experience and development preferences of the Category Manager.
Using previous Category experience the Category Manager will need to demonstrate track record of delivering both financial and non-financial value by applying Procurement best practices such as Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Relationships Management (SRM).
Key Responsibilities:
Category specific role and responsibilities include:
- Leads and executes the category management process in line with Strategic Sourcing methodology and the principles and the Total Value concept
- Sets Category vision and strategy after full cross-functional review
- Provides Category leadership to BWC
- Develops and delivers Category specific targets / KPI's and all required category measurement and reporting on a regular basis (eg monthly or annual)
- Identifies and delivers Category non-financial value such as Sustainability and Innovation
- Creates and delivers all the required documentation to enable the Strategic Sourcing process.
- Participates in or leads Category specific strategic sourcing events.
- Leads and delivers all Category specific supplier management (SRM).
- Generates all category related / required insight and knowledge management
- Delivers on ad-hoc basis operational procurement support outside of the core role categories when required
- Delivers category specific digitalisation if appropriate
- Leads Category specific stakeholder engagement.
- Represents BWC internally and externally to our supply chain suppliers and partners

Essential Requirements for the Role:
- 5-10 years' experience of Procurement, ideally Category Management predominantly indirect.
- Procurement experience in at least three of the role specific categories preferred.
- CIPS qualified or working towards a CIPS qualification.
- Track record of executing collaboration and improvement projects with end-to-end process efficiency at its heart
- Cross functional, forward thinking and able to use a confident mix of operational and strategic initiatives to drive value and align to the company's vision and long-term goals
- Ability to perform market positioning analysis and understand costs and value creation
- Excellent communicator able to influence at all levels and get internal buy in
- Agile, multitasking and dynamic team player able to deliver at speed and with limited supervision.
- Flexible approach, able to challenge constructively and identify long term value whilst building key stakeholder relationships
