About your new role

Our Defender Insurance team provides a full, expert service in defending public (PL), employers' liability (EL), disease, and motor claims across the private and public sectors. Weightmans' team is renowned for litigation defence services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate nationally with dedicated teams in commercial insurance, motor, disease, regulatory, and public sectors, including a dedicated Casualty Fraud team.

We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor 1-3 YRS PQE to join our Glasgow Insurance Team.

Based in Glasgow, you will manage a varied caseload of pre and litigated disease claims, EL/PL claims, and motor/fraud cases. You will also assist with high-value and complex claims. We receive instructions from insureds, insurers, and local authorities.

Your responsibilities include managing daily case activities, liaising with clients, opponents, courts, witnesses, and conducting liability investigations.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Handling predominantly PI, EL, PL, Disease, and Motor claims
  • Providing legal advice and representation as part of a team
  • Assisting Partners and senior handlers with cases, client development, training, networking, and public speaking

  • Achieving financial targets
  • Meeting deadlines, SLAs, quality measures, and KPIs
  • Adhering to policies and procedures
  • Working in line with Weightmans' values

Additional tasks within the wider remit of the role may be required.

About You

Ideally, you will have experience and a genuine interest in the area. You should be adaptable and flexible, with:

  • Experience managing defence of EL/PL casualty claims
  • Desirable: experience with motor, fraud, or disease claims
  • Knowledge of Court of Session and Sheriff Court procedures
  • Experience handling your own caseload
  • Good influencing, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently or as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel

If you meet these criteria and are enthusiastic and committed, we look forward to your application.
