Dorset Travel coordinates the transport provision for children and young people with additional needs within Dorset as well as out of county. The team also supply and support transport needs for Mainstream, Child Care as well as Adults. Casual Passengers are required from the Weymouth and Portland Area contracted to cover Regular Passenger Assistant absence. Hours are flexible and based on availability - Term Time Only - commencing at £12.85 per hour. Medical training (DC Provided) increases this to commence at £13.05 per hour.
The role of a Passenger Assistant is to support children and young people with additional needs, providing assistance and support in maintaining a safe environment on the journey from/to home/school.
This vacancy is to support children/young people in the Dorset Area. Dorset Travel is looking for caring, flexible and responsible passenger assistants who have:
Responsibilities- Support children and young people with additional needs, providing assistance and maintaining a safe environment on journeys to and from home and school.
- Knowledge of moderate and complex learning needs.
- An understanding of safeguarding children.
- Recognition of hazards and how to report them.
- Customer care.
You must be physically fit with the ability to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry and kneel to provide the care required for the position of a Passenger Assistant.
Training and InductionDorset Travel is an accredited training centre with experienced and qualified trainers. New staff will be invited onto a full induction training course, providing the tools and knowledge to work safely and professionally. Full training covers:
- Safeguarding
- Manual Handling
- Emergency First Aid
- Customer Care
Additional training is offered: Midazolam - epilepsy; EpiPen - allergies; Feed Pump. An Enhanced DBS Check will be undertaken as part of the recruitment process for Child and Adult workforce.

Please note you will need to have Business Insurance in order to attend Induction and Refresher Training.
