CASUAL - Holiday Camp Coach (Student Enrichment Directorate)

Team Durham Holiday Camps are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to coach and supervise primary school aged children (ages 5 16) during Easter and summer camps. The role involves coaching or assisting in full days (8:15 am - 4:45 pm or 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, with a half hour unpaid lunch) for 1-4 weeks in the summer at The Sports and Wellbeing Park, Stockton Road, Durham, DH1 3SE.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and deliver structured sport and activity sessions (typically 4-5 per day).
- Supervise children throughout the day, including registration, sign out, lunch, and breaks.
- Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Welcome children and lead activities during registration and sign out.
- Work flexibly with a range of age groups and run or assist in sports and activities beyond your speciality.
- Demonstrate a professional, mature, and responsible attitude.
- Complete mandatory training throughout the year.
- Minimum Level 1 qualification in a sport or equivalent dance/movement qualification.
- Experience and interest in some of the sports and activities on offer.
- Relevant experience of leading groups of children.
- Adaptable and able to show initiative in dealing with challenging situations.
- Strong communication skills and an enthusiastic approach.
- Safety conscious with ability to identify control measures to minimise risk.
- Age over 18 and right to work in the UK.
- Level 2 qualification in one or more sports or equivalent dance/movement is a plus.
- Experience working with different key stage age groups.
- Ability to work as part of a team and motivate others.
- Good sense of fun and ability to keep young people entertained.
Hourly rate: £12.60 (Durham University Casual Rate 1) plus holiday pay. Working hours are approximately 8 hours per day. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check or relevant criminal policy or police checks.
