Caretaker (Temp to Perm)

Location: Rugby - Primary school
Job Type: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full-Time (flexibility can be offered for start times / split shifts etc)
Salary: Hourly rate PAYE dependent on experience - permanent salary to be confirmed by school if it progresses to that

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Caretaker to support the day-to-day maintenance, security, and upkeep of a busy site. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or site management experience who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the premises as required.
• Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Ensuring the site, grounds, and communal areas are clean, safe, and well-presented.
• Conducting regular health and safety checks.
• Monitoring and reporting maintenance issues.
• Liaising with contractors and overseeing visitor access.
• Setting up rooms and facilities for meetings or events when required.
• Supporting emergency procedures and responding to site-related issues.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, site operative, or similar role.
• Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and communication skills.
• A flexible and hands-on approach to work.

Desirable

• Experience working within schools, public sector organisations, housing, or commercial buildings.
• Health & Safety qualifications.
• Full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of this role being in a primary school the applicant must have an enhanced DBS check against children or be willing to obtain one.
