Job Description
Cardiovascular Tech I - Diagnostic Cardiology - 0.5 Part Time - Rochester

The Cardiovascular Tech I supports the Mission and Vision of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) by performing electrocardiograms, stress tests (regular, thallium, persantine), and Holter monitor procedures to aid physicians in assessing patients' cardiovascular systems. The role also involves training new employees and performing related clerical duties.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients according to established standards for stress testing, including treadmill and isotope studies, and monitor blood pressure and ECG before and after procedures.
  • Produce technically accurate, artifact free electrocardiographic tracings.
  • Verify that proper consent forms are signed prior to each test.
  • Obtain accurate and pertinent patient medical histories and document technical findings for physician review.
  • Instruct patients on post procedure activities regarding diet, exercise, and shower restrictions.
  • Set up 24 hour ambulatory ECG recorders and provide patient instructions.
  • Follow department and CHMC policies regarding crash cart operations and daily defibrillator checks.
  • Assist in orienting new employees and students in stress testing techniques.
  • Perform related duties such as stocking supplies, maintaining files and logs, preparing reports of activity, and cleaning and maintaining work areas.
  • Promote a positive work environment through quality service and positive staff attitudes.
  • Demonstrate and actively promote an understanding of CHMC's mission, standards of performance, and code of ethics.
Licenses / Certifications Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Education / Experience Required
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a hospital approved cardiology technology program or related college coursework, or at least one year of experience administering stress tests or prior EKG experience.
  • Knowledge of proper 12 lead electrocardiographic lead placement and skin preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Ability to recognize technical artifacts as well as cardiac arrhythmia patterns, including heart blocks, ischemia, and infarction.
Qualifications
  • Ability to identify age related differences within the people served and adjust treatment style and expectations accordingly.
  • Sensitive to the patient's cognitive function, learning ability, religious, and cultural needs and preferences.
