Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the care, well being and health of dogs at the National SPCA Dublin Centre.

At the National SPCA, we pride ourselves in providing the highest level of care for all animals, ensuring that all nutritional, sanitation, veterinary, exercise, enrichment and well being needs are met. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient activities of a busy facility, working with our internal teams, caring for animals and liaising with the public.

Duties:
  • Feed and water animals according to their specific dietary needs.
  • Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, including cages, kennels, and litter boxes.
  • Exercise animals regularly to ensure they are physically healthy and mentally stimulated.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the vet team.
  • Monitor animals for any signs of illness or injury and report any concerns.
  • Assist with the intake and adoption process when required, including conducting meet and greets with potential adopters.
  • Maintain accurate records of each animal's care and behaviour and communicate effectively to Rehabilitation and Rehoming Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, volunteers and corporate groups.
  • Follow all policy and procedure with regards to sanitation and disease control (training will be provided).
  • This list is not exhaustive. You may, from time to time, be required to fulfil other duties as set out by your manager.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • A qualification in animal care an advantage.
  • Previous experience working with animals, preferably in a shelter or veterinary setting.
  • Knowledge of animal behaviour, health, and nutrition an advantage.
  • Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and people facing.
  • Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting and carrying animals and supplies.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when required, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing the best possible care for all animals.
