About the Role

Provide specialised care to patients with complex heart and lung conditions, including pre-operative and post-operative management. The Cardiothoracic Advanced Nurse Practitioner is responsible for care of cardiothoracic patients throughout their journey, from pre-admission to post-discharge.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver cardiovascular and thoracic assessment, treatment and follow-up care to patients.
• Coordinate pre operative, peri operative and post-discharge management plans.
• Educate patients, families and interdisciplinary team members.
• Collaborate with surgeons and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
• Conduct clinical assessments, interpret investigations, prescribe care and monitor progress.
• Assist in teaching and assessing junior staff and nursing students.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse on the NMBI's Active Register.
• Master's in Nursing qualification and pursuing registration on the Advanced Nurse Practitioner section of the NMBI register.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a cardiothoracic setting, preferably in an advanced practice role.
• Strong clinical skills and knowledge of cardiothoracic conditions, treatments and procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in a fast paced environment.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of emerging trends in cardiothoracic medicine.
• Advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in nursing management of cardiothoracic patients.
