About the Role:

As Business Director - Finance and Operations you will lead the strategic growth and operational excellence of our school and trust services under the School Business Services (SBS) brand. Reporting to the Managing Director for Professional Services, you'll play a key role in shaping and delivering our strategy, leading a team of senior professionals, and ensuring exceptional client experiences.

You'll drive the development of market-leading propositions, optimise operational performance, and inspire your teams to deliver outstanding service with commercial impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategic direction, growth, and profitability of the Finance and Operationsbusiness unit.
• Develop and deliver innovative, tech-enabled service propositions that meet evolving customer needs.
• Manage P&L, set budgets, and ensure financial targets are met.
• Build and develop a high-performing, 100+ person team with an empowering leadership approach.
• Foster a strong customer-first culture and ensure high levels of client retention and satisfaction.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and product teams to deliver successful go-to-market strategies.
• Shape and execute an operational model that improves efficiency and supports investment in people.
• Represent SBSas a thought leader in the education services sector.

About you

What We're Looking For:

A senior leader with proven success in driving commercial growth, operational excellence, and high-performing teams

• Strong financial acumen and experience managing significant budgets and P&L ownership.
• A customer-focused, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to drive innovation and transformation.
• Strong Education Sector experience, with knowledge of the MAT and schools Market.
• Skilled in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Executive presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to inspire confidence at all levels.
• Comfortable working at pace and navigating change.

It would be desirable if you had

• Schools and MAT Finance experience.
• Experience in delivering professional services, ideally subscription-based.
• A tech-savvy approach to service innovation and operational improvement.

This is not a senior finance position, we're not looking for a Finance Director. This is a role for a seasoned business leader, managing and growing a successful commercial business unit. Previous experience within the Education sector and how schools, Multi-Academy Trusts and Local Authorities operate is essential for this role.
