Job Description Your Mission: Assystem are seeking a Building Services Engineer to work within the Approval Authority of a major Client. The Building Services Engineer will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approval Authority, the primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes.The Client team consists of Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical, Piping Engineers and are responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation for Nuclear Facilities, ensuring Design Intent, Critical Safety Factors and Safety and Operational Requirements are met and are consistent with current good practice and legislative/regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents. Manage and assess design changes and concessions. Present design substantiations to nuclear safety and Client "Due Process" committees. Produce and update EIMT (Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing) schedules and procedures. Produce and review Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) reports. Provide technical advice and support to internal and external stakeholders. Develop scopes for Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Independent Peer Reviews (IPR). Apply specialist engineering expertise in nuclear/high-hazard environments. Produce robust technical justifications for design modifications. Review and check technical reports, safety case submissions, calculations, and engineering documents. Position Requirements: Experience - Essential Strong HVAC building-services design experience, including supporting systems (e.g., LTHW, fire dampers). Ability to analyse and illustrate psychrometric properties and HVAC design processes. Knowledge of key legislation and standards for building services and the built environment. Familiarity with CIBSE Guides, ASHRAE Standards and recognised industry technical guidance. Experience producing detailed technical reports-ideally for design substantiation in high-hazard industries. Proven ability to author robust technical justifications for design modifications in safety-critical environments. Experience contributing engineering input on multi-disciplinary projects (industrial or maritime preferred). Experience - Desirable Experience working within HMNB Clyde or similar high-risk environments. Familiarity with safety case development methods (e.g., HAZID/HAZOP). Experience in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), especially safety-related structures/systems. Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulation, practice, and nuclear-specific codes/standards. Qualifications & Training Essential Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience. Willingness to complete an introductory nuclear course within 6 months (if coming from a non-nuclear background). Desirable Engineering degree. Chartered Engineer status.
