Building Facilities Technician

We are seeking a practical and reliable Building Facilities Technician to support the maintenance and operation of a busy research environment. This hands on role involves planned maintenance, building repairs, laboratory installations and facilities support, helping to ensure buildings and services are safe, efficient and well maintained.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £14.98 per hour + holiday pay
Key Duties- Carry out planned maintenance of building plant, equipment and facilities
- Assist with laboratory refurbishments, fit outs and construction projects
- Perform general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and grounds maintenance
- Install, move and modify laboratory and office furniture, equipment and building services
- Distribute laboratory consumables, including dry ice, liquid nitrogen and compressed gas cylinders
- Safely dispose of surplus equipment, hazardous chemicals and waste in line with regulations
- Support emergency procedures by assisting with fire and security systems when required
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using facilities management software
- Monitor stock levels of building materials and laboratory consumables, raising orders as required
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety policies and University procedures
- Good practical maintenance and DIY skills, including experience using hand and power tools
- Experience carrying out building maintenance, repairs or facilities support work
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email
- Knowledge of health and safety principles within a maintenance or facilities environment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload
- Flexible approach with the ability to support a wide range of facilities tasks
- Good physical fitness and ability to move furniture, equipment and gas cylinders safely
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good written and verbal communication skills
