Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW:

The BIM Technical Manager role entails taking ownership of the production of our BIM models (and all 2D and 3D drawings) to ensure high-quality delivery across all projects, in accordance with agreed timelines. The BIM Technical Manager will drive the organisation's transition to BIM, aiming for seamless workstreams among MEP engineers and BIM Technicians. All engineers should be proficient in Revit and supporting software to deliver coordinated BIM models and 3D drawings from inception to project completion. The role requires identifying, influencing, and implementing industry developments.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Management
  • Organise and manage weekly meetings with BIM/CAD staff and team leaders to assess workload and utilisation.
  • Report on the company's BIM implementation status and projections.
  • Develop strategies for BIM upgrades and deployment, including workflow, budgets, staffing, and project requirements.
  • Create a comprehensive BIM implementation plan.
  • Evaluate and demonstrate BIM success based on established goals.
  • Set targets and monitor workload against deliverables.
  • Report project or team feedback/issues to directors.
Training and HR Management
  • Conduct internal Revit training or advise on requirements.
  • Lead internal CPD Revit training sessions.
  • Provide onboarding orientation for new employees regarding Revit/BIM tools.
  • Develop competency tests for new hires in BIM/Revit.
  • Maintain up-to-date software skills through regular use and training.
  • Manage performance standards within the team and address poor performance.
  • Conduct staff appraisals.
  • Oversee recruitment processes.
  • Promote team morale, cooperation, and collaboration.
  • Assist in retaining high-quality staff alongside Directors.
Standards
  • Oversee BIM and CAD standards development, implementation, and enforcement.
  • Manage BIM/CAD template files to ensure standards are met.
  • Develop and enforce BIM documentation and workflow standards.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, maintaining high standards internally and externally.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to Quality Assurance procedures and company standards.
Financial
  • Maintain awareness of BIM & CAD deliverables' costs on projects and report to the Project Director.
  • Provide feedback on project costs and time spent, guiding future project fee estimations.
  • Ensure weekly timesheet completion and optimal resource utilization.
Project Interface - BIM Project Management
  • Assess client needs and define project briefs.
  • Coordinate project standards with staff and clients.
  • Manage creation of Revit families as needed.
  • Assist in resolving BIM design issues and coordinate accordingly.
  • Respond to EIRs, contribute to BIM Execution Plans, and establish delivery mechanisms to meet client BIM requirements.
  • Keep project documentation current and manage file protocols.
Hardware and Software Management
  • Coordinate with IT support on hardware/software needs, replacement schedules, and budgets.
  • Assess new software and hardware for suitability.
Health & Safety
  • Report all accidents, incidents, or near misses.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S requirements at all times.
  • Review and act on findings related to accidents/incidents/near misses.
  • Provide H&S information as required.
