We are seeking a committed and resilient individual to work full-time within a specialist referral setting supporting young people with additional behavioural, emotional and social needs.
This role is ideally full-time to provide consistency and stability for pupils, however employment will be offered through an agency and therefore work cannot be guaranteed.
The RoleYou will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, supporting them both academically and emotionally throughout the school day. The role requires strong relationship-building skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm and consistent in demanding situations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs
Support pupils to engage with learning activities and follow routines
Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a reliable role model
Support pupils during lessons, unstructured times, and off-site activities where required
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals
Maintain safeguarding standards at all times and follow setting policies
The Ideal Candidate
Has experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural or emotional needs
Is consistent, reliable, and able to commit to full-time hours where possible
Demonstrates resilience, patience, and a calm approach under pressure
Has a genuine interest in engaging young people through activities such as sport, gaming, fitness, or other positive hobbies
Can set clear boundaries while remaining approachable and supportive
Is flexible and understands the nature of agency work
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Youth Work, Childcare, or a related field
Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, SEN, or youth work setting
Team Teach or other behaviour management training (or willingness to undertake training)
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
