Job Description

It is an exciting time to join our teams in Barnet and we are seeking enthusiastic and skilled colleagues to join us as we build on existing models of care and introduce new ways of working.

Our transformation plans over the next 12 months will include further integration with primary care, planned and unplanned care models, and a greater emphasis on population health.All being delivered with the support and leadership of a forward-thinking Senior Management Team.

You will be able to contribute to the creation of what that looks like as well as positively impacting and enhancing the experiences of our patients in Barnet.

You will provide day-to-day clinical care in a supported environment and within a dynamic team. Providing day-to-day professional leadership, you will ensure the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care delivery while providing assurance that standards of clinical care within a designated area is of the highest standard attainable.

Main duties of the job
  • Band 6 Specialist Podiatrists are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
  • Setting and maintaining standards of care and deploy, co-ordinate and supervise the Podiatry team and learners as required.
  • Providing leadership and management to a team of community podiatrists and other staff covering a specified locality.
  • Keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound and up-to-date clinical skills and effective clinical risk assessments adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures
  • Ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering, and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process.
  • She/he is responsible for delegating appropriate duties to qualified and unqualified members of the nursing team throughout the working day and ensuring smooth transition of patient care to the out of hours services if necessary.
  • The post holder should ensure that the dignity and religious and cultural beliefs of individual patients and staff members are respected.
  • To be responsible for the team's assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised podiatry care to patients living in the community.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Education/Qualification
  • Diploma/Degree in Podiatric medicine (or the equivalent)
  • Registration with HPC
  • Certificate in Local Anaesthesia
  • Knowledge of recent developments in NHS
  • Knowledge of Evidence based practice
  • Evidence of personal development
  • Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct
  • Relevant courses in Long Term Conditions Management
  • Course of Top to Toe examination/ diagnosis Experience
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience at band 5 Specialist Podiatrist level
  • Substantial experience as District Nurse Caseload manager/Team leader
  • Knowledge of the lower limb complications associated with Diabetes
  • Management of a team and proven leadership ability.
  • Understanding of Management responsibilities and boundaries
  • Management of change within a complex environment
  • Experience of teaching others/junior staff
  • Knowledge of negotiation skills
  • Evidence of expertise in clinical skills
  • Experience of participating in investigation/ management of complaints
  • Evidence of participating in clinical audits and quality in the workplace knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply all relevant ECS and professional policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Evidence of working with multi-disciplinary teams across
  • NHS settings
  • Proven clinical skills at Senior Community Podiatry level. Having Current Competencies in all clinical skills relevant to district podiatry and holistic assessment of patients and carers needs
  • Understanding of current political and policy context in Primary Health Care
  • Good understanding of the government agenda for community podiatry.
  • Good understanding of NHS 10 Year plan
Skills & Knowledge
  • Specialist experience in full breadth of podiatric treatment modalities
  • Experience of holding a domicillary caseload
  • Experience of treating High risk diabetic patients
  • Experience of nail surgery
  • Highly developed level of skill and manual dexterity
  • IT skills - MS Office package, Email, SystmOne, Mobile, ability to search internet and intranet.
  • Produce data for reports as required
  • Experience of Biomechanics gait analysis and orthotics
Key Attributes
  • Ability to liaise with representatives from other organisations and to communicate a positive image of self and of the service/organisation.
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
