Our property portfolio comprises of 200+ buildings with 200,000m+ of floor space across four main hospital sites. In addition, 50+ satellites sites are located within land assets of 60+ hectares spread across local communities in Birmingham and Solihull.
Our 2,000 directorate colleagues provide building, engineering and facilities support services across the four acute hospital sites at the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull that make up UHB Foundation Trust. It delivers maintenance services, capital projects and is responsible for the delivery of estates developments and investment in infrastructure upgrades.
Due to retirement, applications are now invited to collaboratively work with our Director of Estates and Facilities in the capacity of Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities in the delivery of the Estates strategy against a budget of 230m alongside a capital programme of over 200m.

Main duties of the job Success in this role will see you use your significant experience in estates engineering and capital development at Director or Deputy level- where your demonstratable record in delivering complex estates and engineering services, compliance standards and capital projects will best support our strategic goals and ambitions.
Ideally, but not limited to healthcare design, estates, and property construction you will be passionate about service design and delivery whilst able to develop effective relationships with stakeholders and at an Executive level. You will influence, inspire and unify whilst listening and learning from around you.

Person Specification Qualifications
- First degree or equivalent professional award in appropriate EFM discipline. E.g. CEng, CIOB, RICS, RIBA, IHEEM, IWFM.
- Master's degree level or equivalent qualifications/experience including significant experience in the operational management of a full range of frontline Hard & Soft FM services.
- Membership of appropriate professional body (i.e. CIBSE, IHEEM, CIOB, RICS, RIBA, IWFM, HEFMA) Masters level degree or equivalent and/or working towards chartered status
- Highly specialist knowledge over more than one function/discipline in the remit of the role
- Master's level qualification or equivalent experience, ideally in a construction or engineering discipline.
- NHS senior management or leadership course
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Fellowship/Chartered status with relevant professional body
- Advanced qualification in project/programme management (e.g. MSP)
- Comprehensive understanding of the NHS and its infrastructure
- In depth specialist knowledge of NHS Estates and Facilities related standards, HTMs, statutory compliance requirements and Health and Safety legislation
- Experience of working closely with regional & national EFM colleagues
- Significant experience in a senior management role at Director or Deputy Director level operationally responsible for a full range of frontline Hard & Soft FM services in a large complex organisation with a demonstrable track record of success
- Successful track record of contract negotiation and long-term contract management/performance management and monitoring of a large PFI or similar contract
- Excellent understanding of negotiation theory and practice and ability to achieve exceptional results
- Evidence of learning through integrated learning

- Experience of managing staff and multiple budgets- Experience of leading on significant projects and change management across an organisation
