An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for a role as the General Manager for Theatres, POA, Anaesthetics and ICU at Royal Free London, based at Barnet & Chase Farm Hospital. The successful candidate will lead the Directorate in ensuring the provision of high-quality patient services that are clinically safe, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust's values. This role will be integral to embedding the new clinical operating model and building strong teams across Barnet and Chase farm Hospital.
The General Manager will support developing a culture of high performance, ownership, and accountability where safety, quality and excellence in patient outcome and experience is consistently delivered, in line with national and locally agreed standards
The General Manager is expected to act as a change agent and be highly visible to frontline staff, demonstrating strong personal leadership and direction whilst at the same time supporting the building of an effective leadership and management team within the Directorate to ensure organisation sustainability

Main duties of the jobReporting to the Divisional Director SAS, the postholder will provide operational leadership for the directorate's services, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets, activity levels, and standards of clinical quality. This senior role supports the DD and DDO across all sites where divisional services operate, with a primary base across Barnet and Chase Farm.
The postholder holds delegated responsibility for operational management, implementing national and local strategies, and achieving service objectives within available resources. Working closely with senior clinical and non-clinical leaders, they will drive effective leadership, management, and capacity to support transformation and service delivery.
As part of the directorate triumvirate with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director, the General Manager will foster staff engagement in delivering divisional strategy. The role includes deputising for the DDO and providing cross-cover for other General Managers within the division.

Person Specification- Post graduate management qualification at master's level or equivalent experience
- Evidence of recent and ongoing continuing personal development relevant to the role
- Substantial senior management experience, in the NHS or other healthcare
- Evidence of leading and managing change within a complex environment
- Strategic planning and project management
- Managing large and complex budgets
- Managing a cross-site, complex function
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibly in a dynamic environment
- Diplomatic style with political acumen
- Leadership of a multidisciplinary team and delivering to deadlines and within resources
- Significant operational management experience in a complex healthcare organisation
- Management of staff

- Broad understanding of the NHS and key policy issues which effect performance
- Significant complex budgetary management
- Ability to achieve effective team working within the division and across divisions
- Numerate, IT literate, analytical and able to use business intelligence effectively.
- Demonstrate advanced influencing and negotiation skills
- Aptitude to engage in constructive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to achieve success through partnership
