Job Description
Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse - Emergency Department Main duties of the job

Royal Free Emergency Department is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Band 7 Emergency Department Nurse. The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of nursing and support staff on a shift basis, as well as being in charge of the department, ensuring quality and safety, high standards of patient care and ensuring patient flow throughout the department. You will also lead a team of nurses and take responsibility for quality and safety initiatives in ED. This post will be based in the Emergency Department at Royal Free hospital. The Emergency department comprises the Adult Treatment Area (ATA), Adult Assessment Unit (AAU) and Children's Emergency Department co located to ED. It includes 6 resuscitation spaces with designated cubicles for children and Rapid Ambulance Triage (RAT). You will be supported by 2 Matrons and a team of 2 Practice Facilitators who support training for all staff across the ED. We also employ Children's and Adult ACPs and actively encourage staff development through ACP training for experienced ED staff. We have strong links to educational establishments and run two University Accredited Emergency Nursing courses in the department, with all junior nursing staff placed on a course within the first 6 to 9 months of starting in the Emergency Department. The department has an active research profile led by our Clinical Lead.

Education & Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • A&E Specialist Course (e.g. 998 or equivalent)
  • ALS/ATNC/APLS provider
  • ENP course
Experience
  • A&E experience at Band 6
  • Evidence of management responsibility
  • Evidence of quality improvement work
  • Proven management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues
  • Ability to work as a team member including team leadership
  • Ability to mentor junior staff
  • Awareness of NHS financial management
Personal Qualities
  • A mature and professional attitude / enthusiastic and positive
  • Displays compassion and understanding
Others
  • Able to work internal rotation to night duty
