JobAnnonce Overview

This role will be fundamental in the delivery and running of a high quality and effective Lung Cancer Screening service. The overall purpose of the programme is to enable early detection of lung cancer to save lives. You will work under the supervision of the Clinical Director, alongside clinical key stakeholders, and report to the Head of Nursing for Planned Care to ensure successful delivery, implementation, and coordination of onward care for all actionable findings.

The Responsible Assessor is integral to the programme's governance structure, responsible for safety and operational aspects of the selection and assessment process for entry into the service. They will continually oversee, monitor, and lead the clinical service day to day.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as a champion for patients and involve the public in designing processes for selection, assessment, lung health checks, and risk assessment.
  • Ensure the patient assessment element of the programme is implemented as outlined in the national Standard Protocol.
  • Collaborate with local health providers, supporting pathway development and design while modelling strong collaborative behaviours to improve patient outcomes.
  • Display comprehensive clinical skills in history taking, clinical examination, assessment, and management of respiratory disease.
  • Act on clinical findings in a timely manner and provide specialist knowledge and advice to colleagues, patients, carers, and relatives where appropriate.
  • Ensure onward referral to relevant care providers such as smoking cessation and pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Hold named responsibility for the Lung Cancer Screening patient group, reporting actionable findings referred to SRM for clinical review.
  • Coordinate the service at an operational level, ensuring effective communication, dissemination of information, leadership of the team, and close partnership with commissioners for service delivery.
Detailed Job Description and Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of standards of practice, evidence based education, training, and audit.
  • Develop and implement standards of care and protocols, supporting strategies for delivery of lung health checks and patient management.
  • Identify and develop policies and protocols across the programme related to lung health checks.
  • Lead and support staff in the investigation of complaints and serious incidents requiring investigation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with leading organisations relevant to the delivery of the workstream.
  • Arrange clinical supervision sessions for staff when appropriate.
  • Collect required statistics and records nationally and departmentally, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with evidence based care processes.
  • Collaborate with professional agencies to meet patient needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews to identify personal development needs.
  • Follow infection control policies and attend mandatory training.

Person Specification Education and qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Band 6/7 experience in a leadership or team management capacity
  • Advanced Communication course
  • Psychological 2 training
  • Clinical Examination Module at Level 6/7 or willingness to work towards it
  • Leadership experience or qualification
