Job Description

The Royal Free (RFH) pharmacy department works under a 'specials' medicinesmanufacturer license. The RFH pharmacy department also holds a ManufacturingAuthorisation for Investigational Medicinal Products MIA (IMP), which allows the unit toprepare products for clinical trials. The Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (PMU) is chieflyconcerned with the preparation and supply of medicines to internal and externalcustomers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering and supporting the specialist, senior and principal pharmacists develop a high quality pharmacy service across technical services. The candidate will work closely with the senior pharmacists and the chief technicians in assisting and organising the day to day running of the manufacturing unitincluding final checking and releasing of terminally sterilised and aseptic products, cytotoxics, and non-sterile products. When required the post holder will be required to support the Barnet aseptic unit. In order to do this, he/she will work closely with the rotational pharmacists, Senior Technicians and other junior staff working within the Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit and the nurses on wards/clinics.

Person Specification Education
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice

Experience
  • Relevant and proven hospital pharmacy manufacturing experience or relevant experience in a commercial production unit.
  • Completion of pre-registration training year
  • Experience of working in Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit would be an advantage
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment in either preregistration year or post-registration.
Knowledge
  • General knowledge of Pharmacy Manufacturing Units.
  • Understanding of the role of the MHRA and legislations governing Pharmacy Manufacturing Units
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Computer literate including ability to use email, Internet, and competent use of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to speak, receive and issue instructions in English without the risk of misunderstanding
  • Able to work quickly, accurately and consistently whilst maintaining accuracy
  • Evidence of working well in a team
  • Logical thought processes
  • Able to perform calculations in order to determine amount of drug or material required to manufacture a product.
