Within our Gastroenterology and Nutrition Support team you will work as a member of the Therapies Respiratory cluster and Gastroenterology and Nutrition Support team providing dietetic support for gastroenterology and nutritional support services across the Trust sites, working with the multidisciplinary gastro teams.

Main duties of the jobYou will work as part of the multidisciplinary gastroenterology team across the Trust, providing a Dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients. You will accurately assess patients' clinical needs in a holistic manner using specialised knowledge and skills and a broad range of nutritional assessment skills, measurements and techniques.
Success in this role will see you provide dietetic advice and support to patients and their careers, taking into account ethical, cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational needs. You will liaise and communicate effectively with other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding inpatients and outpatients, advising and negotiating with the team to ensure optimal dietetic care for all patients.
You will develop and distribute appropriate evidence based dietary literature for gastroenterology patients and carers and participate in the implementation of service developments in dietetic gastroenterology and nutritional support services. You will supervise and actively participate in the training of student dietitians, student nurses and wider clinical teams.

Person Specification Qualifications- Current State Registration with HCPC
- Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in gastroenterology/surgery. This would usually be approximately 12 months.
- Demonstration of clinical experience of working with patients within speciality
- Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team and dietetic team
- Understanding of audit, clinical effectiveness and its importance in the provision of a quality service
- Awareness of local needs, eg; ethnic minority and low income groups
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Evidence of presentations to groups
- Work in line with HCPC standards and BDA code of conduct
- Experience with managing patients requiring parenteral nutrition or complex nutritional needs
- Experience managing a critical care caseload
- Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills.
- Able to adapt communication style to varied listeners one to one and in groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Insight into own CPD needs and appropriate strategies for addressing them.
- Enthusiasm for the development and promotion of the service and the ability to take initiative.
- Enthusiasm to work in speciality area.
- Evidence for CPD and demonstrates strategies for keeping up to date eg Involvement in appropriate Clinical Excellence Groups and Professional Body.

- Good presentation and teaching skills, both written and verbal.

- Member of the BDA.
- Member of BDA specialist interest group
