Band 6 Clinical Educator - PED

An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Paediatric Emergency Department at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for a Band 6 Clinical Educator. The department is a busy inner city major trauma centre and sees around 50,000 children a year.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Ward Manager and the senior nursing team to ensure all staff, particularly new starters, are supported to learn and develop new specialist skills.

This is an exciting prospect for an organised, knowledgeable nurse proficient in caring for children in emergency settings and their families who wishes to gain further leadership and education/teaching experience.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Ward Manager with particular focus on:

• Working alongside PED's Band 7 Clinical Educator to establish a training programme for the department that meets national standards and targets.

• Training and education for staff, patients and carers.

• Supporting classroom teaching.

• Working alongside the RMCH's education team becoming involved in the teaching of AIMs and trust induction.

• Leadership and professional role modelling through preparation and coordination, complex communication, challenging practice as required and celebrating achievement as it occurs.

• Review of pathways to identify training needs of staff and ensure appropriate education.

• Review of local guidelines and protocols to ensure up to date and accessible to staff.

• To continue to review and update the education strategy to ensure appropriate knowledge and skills of staff.

• To participate in teaching/training for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital "New Staff Induction Programme".

• Supporting the ward manager to ensure quality, safety and patient experience.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • RN (Child) / RSCN
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant speciality
  • Evidence of level 3 studies
  • Qualified to function as mentor for pre registration students
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Appropriate management or leadership course
Training and Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience with significant experience within relevant clinical setting
  • Evidence of professional leadership, leading to innovation in practice
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary / multiagency working.
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of clinical research activities
Knowledge
  • Clinically competent in named clinical area
  • Awareness off clinical governance process
Skills and Abilities
