Band 5 Midwife - Newly Qualified

Job Overview

To contribute to the provision of evidence based professional midwifery services, providing high quality holistic perinatal midwifery care that is sensitive to the needs of women and their families. This role involves working in partnership with the multi disciplinary team across both hospital and community settings, ensuring continuity of care in line with local models. The post holder will also complete the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Local Maternity & Neonatal System (WY&H LMNS) preceptorship package as part of their professional development and transition to Band 6.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high quality evidence based care throughout the maternity pathway.
• Communicate in a clear and unbiased manner with women, families and the multi disciplinary team to facilitate informed decision making.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care in partnership with the woman/birthing person, promoting equity, equality and consideration of diversity and rights.
• Maintain contemporaneous documentation in accordance with the NMC Code.
• Liaise and work collaboratively with the multi disciplinary team and other agencies when complex needs are identified.
• Continuously assess risks and deviations from normal and ensure timely referral, intervention and escalation.
• Consider the diverse needs of women and their families and ensure delivery of individualized care plans.
• Participate in the provision of public health information.
• Provide health/parent education individually or in groups to maximise benefit to families.
• Advocate for women's informed choice in all aspects of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care.
• Participate in departmental team meetings and other committees as necessary.

Qualifications

• Maintain own clinical skills and knowledge in line with current evidence based practice and local training needs analysis.

Experience

• Complete the WY&H LMNS Preceptorship Package and report any concerns to the lead midwife/line manager.
